Browsing for Media

There are thousands of files available in the Berklee Digital Media collection. Video interviews and demonstrations, audio recordings, sheet music, DAW project files, images of art and artists, can all be found within. But with such a tremendous library to dig through, how can we find what we are looking for? If you don't know what exactly it is you are trying to find, browsing can be a great way to dive in, and by using the "Refine Search" options you can narrow things down to just what you want.

Choose a Category From the List on the Left

All subjects are listed under Academic Subjects in the categories. If you don't see a category you are looking for, it may be farther down the list. Click the "More" button at the bottom right of the categories to expand the list.

Refine your Search

Once you've chosen a category, choose a file type you are looking for, such as Video, PDF, or Audio. You can include several options by checking off more than one of the available file types. Again, the "More" button at the bottom right will reveal additional file types. "Other" will reveal files like Finale's .mus files, and "Compressed Archive" will reveal zipped files that might contain projects from a DAW.

Find a Specific Course

Files that are available in the Berklee Digital Media collection, are tagged with the courses they would most likely be used for. You can filter the results you'll see by choosing the appropriate course from the list.

Or Find a Specific Instrument and Style

When appropriate, files may also be tagged with the Genre and Instrument, allowing you to search specifically for Piano, Guitar or Vocal music, as well as the style. For example, of the Tune File documents are available, and are categorized by genre, as well as by the course and topic they would be most appropriate for.

Then View your Results

As you are choosing the options to refine your search, you will see that the assets on the screen will refresh to fit your criteria. Now you can either browse through the available assets, or you can search in the box at the top. Anything you find when searching will be limited to the categories you chose. Some assets will have a download button, others will only be available for "streaming" for copyright protection, but they can still be added to your digital course on IBC. View the Sharing section to learn more, or the Collections section to see how to group and save these items for later use.
